I Got An “F” In Art

“Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work.” -Gustave Flaubert

Another report card-themed post…

We’re all trying to be “A” students in life. We do our very best to follow the rules. And for the most part, that’s a good thing.

But in our art, it’s okay to get the “F.”

Smash the boundaries. Beak the rules. Tear down the gates and gatekeepers.

Just remember though, as any great master of modern art would advise…better to know the rules first, before you attempt to break them.

P.S. – Pictured above is Helen Frankenthaler’s “Mountains And Sea.”
